The West Virginia Training and Conference Center offers various emergency medical training through WV MHS&T regarding certification and recertification of the EMT Miner class. This course offers important information regarding emergency care and how to appropriately respond to medical emergencies. Courses Offered

WV EMT-M Initial Certification

Duration: Eight days

Program Overview: 

A comprehensive 60-hour training, fulfilling the requirements of the West Virginia Office of Miners Health Safety & Training (WV MHS&T) for completing a course to obtain WV EMT-M certification. The full training will last eight days; seven days of instruction and hands-on training and one day of review and testing. 

Registration is open. This class will take place on Monday, May 16 – Friday, May 20 from 7 a.m.-5 p.m. with the exam scheduled for Monday, May 23 from 7 a.m.-5 p.m.

Class is limited to 20 people.

The course will be $400 plus 6% state sales tax ($424) and due by Monday, May 16. Course fees cover in-person instruction, training materials, and resources. Certification Cards will be made after a passed exam on Monday, May 23, and will be $10.

Program Overview: 

An intensive, eight-hour training, fulfilling the requirements of WV MHS&T an annual refresher course to maintain WV EMT-M certification. The recertification written and hands-on tests will be administered at the end of the course.


Hands-On EMT Skill Drills

Program Overview: 

This course is a day packed full of hands-on skills practice for those who are currently an EMT. The class will cover scenarios for surface, plant, and underground operation injuries and treatment needed.


CPR Certification & Basic First Aid

Program Overview: 

This course will certify individuals in CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and basic first aid through the Emergency Care & Safety Institute (ECSI) and/or American Heart Association (AHA). All Basic Life Support procedures demonstrated in this course adhere to the most recent AHA Guidelines. CPR certifications and First Aid are valid for two years from date of issue.
